Hi there — an emergency fund isn't about being rich. It's about a flat tire not becoming a debt spiral. Here's the money math.

01 · The three-to-six rule

Months of expenses, not income

The fact: the standard emergency fund is 3–6 months of essential expenses — rent, food, utilities — not your full paycheck. That's a smaller, more reachable number. Orbiq already knows your monthly essentials, so your target is grounded in what you actually spend, not a round guess.

02 · The first $1,000

A starter fund beats no fund

The fact: a small starter buffer covers the vast majority of real-life "emergencies" — a car repair, a vet bill, a broken phone. You don't need six months before it starts working. Set an Orbiq goal for the starter amount first, hit it, then raise the target. Progress you can see is progress you keep.
 

03 · Sinking funds

A goal for the thing you know is coming

The fact: the smartest savers separate "true emergencies" from "known-but-irregular" costs — holidays, flights home, annual premiums — and save for each on its own. Give every one its own Orbiq goal and add money as you go, so December's flight home doesn't raid the emergency fund.
 

04 · Time beats timing

The best day to start was earlier

The fact: because interest compounds, money set aside earlier does more work than the same amount saved later — the gap widens every year. The lesson isn't "save more," it's "start now, even small." A goal opened today is worth more than a bigger one opened next year.
