Orbiq #028 — Fewer taps

New on web, iPhone & Android

Less tidying,
more knowing.

Hi there — we spent the last ten days going through every screen you use most, one tap at a time, and asking what we could take away. Here's what came out.

01 · Review

Sort a week of spending in a minute

Everything waiting on you now lives on one Review page. Pick a category once and the row is filed; confirm a whole batch of suggestions in one go; change your mind with Undo. Suggestions come from how you've filed that merchant before, and on the web you can triage from the keyboard.

02 · Transactions

Find it, and see what it adds up to

Search answers as you type. Tap a quick filter — a category, a card, a tag — and the list tells you what it totals, money in and out. Every day carries its own total, and card charges now sit on the date your bank shows them, so the list reads like your statement. Added something by hand on the wrong day? Its date is editable now.

03 · Budgets

Budgets that say what's left

Every budget now reads “$120 left” or “over by $40”, with a pace marker showing where you should be today, and the ones at risk sort to the top. Didn't spend it all? Switch on rollover and the leftover carries into next month — or hit Start fresh to wipe the slate.

04 · Bills & goals

Your month of bills on one page

Bills has a calendar view, and a subscription strip that adds up what you pay every month so the forgotten ones stand out. The bell lists what's due this week, and on iPhone each bill can remind you on its own schedule. Savings goals you top up by hand now show your pace and every contribution you've made.

05 · Ask Orbiq

A conversation, not a search box

Every answer now offers follow-up questions, so the next thing you'd ask is one tap away. Spot something odd in a chart? Ask about this opens the assistant already looking at it. A failed answer gets a Retry, and a thumbs up or down tells us what to fix. On iPhone, ask Orbiq, check which card to use, or see upcoming bills straight from Shortcuts.

06 · Everywhere

Pull down, and your bank actually syncs

On your phone, pull to refresh now fetches fresh transactions from your connected bank, and tells you when it's done. On the web, ⌘K jumps to any bill, goal, account or category. And every list — budgets, bills, cards, your ledger — now lines its figures up in clean columns, so you can scan down a row of numbers instead of hunting for them.

Also

Your dashboard answers “am I OK?” before you scroll, with anything needing attention behind one button; Settings are grouped into six sections; deleting a used category offers to merge it instead; challenges start from a template; and the web app and both phone apps now do nearly all the same things.
