The short version
If all your accounts are in US dollars, or all in Canadian dollars, Monarch is a strong all-in-one app. If they are in two currencies, Monarch’s own help centre says not to mix them, and that is the gap Orbiq fills.
Where Monarch stops
Monarch’s help centre article International Accounts and Currency says Monarch displays every figure with a $ sign, does not tell currencies apart behind the scenes, and does not convert between them, and recommends against connecting accounts in different currencies because the totals would mislead. Ten thousand Canadian dollars and ten thousand US dollars would add up to “$20,000”.
For someone paid in one currency and sending money home in another, that is not an edge case. It is the whole month.
What Orbiq does differently
- One ledger for every currency you live in. CAD, USD, INR, GBP, EUR, AUD and nine more sit together; each row keeps the amount and currency the bank wrote.
- The rate from each transaction’s own day. Totals in your home currency are converted row by row, not at one rate for the month.
- What a transfer really cost. Orbiq pairs the two legs of a transfer between your countries and prices it against the mid-market rate on the day it left.
- Import from anywhere. Screenshots, PDF statements, CSV, XLSX and OFX, from any bank in any country, with no bank login. Canadian and US banks can also sync on Orbiq Connect, through Plaid.
- Leave whenever you like. Export everything as documented JSON, or as CSV files YNAB and Actual Budget import, and read an export offline with the open-source viewer.
Who might stay on Monarch
If every account you have is in one currency and you want investment holdings valued at market prices, Monarch does that and Orbiq deliberately does not: Orbiq tracks the money you put in and take out, never a market value it would have to guess. Shared household finances and bank sync across the US are Monarch strengths too.

FAQ
Can Monarch track Canadian dollars and rupees together?
Not as two currencies. Monarch’s help centre says it shows every figure with a $ sign and does not convert between currencies, and recommends against mixing accounts in different currencies.
Can I bring my Monarch history into Orbiq?
If you can download your transactions from Monarch as a CSV, Orbiq imports it through the column mapper: you confirm the columns once. Each account keeps its own currency.
Does Orbiq value my investments?
No. Orbiq tracks the money you put into investments and take out, with the rate from each day, but never estimates what a holding is worth today.
