Where this data lives

Nowhere but your browser. This page makes no request to Orbiq at all — the group is encoded in the part of the URL after the #, which browsers never send to a server. The trade-off is the obvious one: the link contains everyone's names and amounts, so treat it like the receipt it is and only send it to people who were there.

Why the fewest transfers matters

Four people on a weekend trip generates a dozen small debts and, if you settle them literally, a dozen small transfers. Netting first collapses that to two or three payments — the same money, a fraction of the fiddling, and nobody chasing $4.50.

This calculator is a slice of what Orbiq does for households continuously: shared expenses tracked as they happen, split however you like, with the running balance always current instead of reconstructed at the end of a trip. See how that works.
