Investments

Track the capital you move into investments, what came back, and what exchange rates did to the money abroad. No guessed portfolio values.

Investments and capital flow#

Web Investments is a Lab. Turn it on in Settings → Features & navigation and it appears in the sidebar.

The page tracks how and when you moved money into investments, across borders too, and what came back. It does not fetch prices or estimate what a holding is worth today: every figure comes from your own rows.

Pick the window at the top (3, 12 or 24 months, or all) and every figure covers the same span. The default is set under Settings → Investment window.

The three figures#

  • Working principal – what you have put in and still have at work, after what you took back out. Split into abroad and at home.
  • FX since transfer – for the money still abroad, what exchange-rate moves since you sent it are worth today, against your own average rate.
  • Realized returns – dividends, interest and payouts that reached you, less fees, kept apart from what you put in.

Below them#

  • Deployment – money in and out each month, with the running total.
  • Where it went – each destination (or currency): what went in, what came back, what is still at work, and its share. Open one to see which of your accounts funded it. The rows add up to working principal.
  • FX since transfer per currency – what is still abroad, your average rate, today's rate and the difference.

What counts is set by category: investment money uses categories of the Investment class, and returns use Investment Income. See Your categories. If you already had dividend or interest categories, Settings → Review investment classification suggests which to move; nothing changes without your yes.

Balance snapshots#

For an account Orbiq cannot import, such as a mutual-fund folio or a brokerage abroad, type its balance in now and then. Two snapshots of one account show how much it grew beyond what you put in, labelled Growth from your snapshots: your number, in its own row, never extended to accounts you have not reported.
